Several factors are behind the rise of Tesla’s Model Y to the top of the Australian sales charts, writes Tony Davis.
In Australia’s Eastern capitals these days, every other car seems to be a Tesla. And as if to confirm that feeling’s not entirely imaginary, new industry sales figures reveal Tesla sold nearly 6000 cars in this country last month, with its Model Y the third best-selling car outright.
that now produces all our Teslas, has cut that wait to as little as four months. Competitors, however, are generally short of stock.. Sudden fuel price hikes always improve sales of energy-efficient vehicles, even though petrol is a comparatively small part of the cost of car ownership.Doing the right thing
. Yes, some EV purchasing is virtue signalling, but some of it is virtue. Responsible people know the internal combustion engine – our faithful and much-loved servant for nearly 140 years – has to go.. Australians are early adopters. They love a gadget, and the Tesla has more of them than any car on the road .
So are Telsas perfect? Of course not. Depending on your taste they may not even be the best electric cars. But they are theelectric cars and for many, still the coolest. So when everyone is scrambling for an EV, Tesla is bound to be the biggest beneficiary.
