JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested eight people, including board members of a cooperative and Land Office personnel, for alleged involvement in the illegal transfer of 1,699ha of oil palm land belonging to an agency linked to the Johor government.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said here on Thursday the three plots of land in Kluang, belonging to the South-East Johor Development Authority , had a market value of over RM100mil.“The misappropriation was detected during an audit of its land bank found that the oil palm land leased to the cooperative had its title transferred to another private company without Kejora's knowledge in the middle of last year.
Comm Kamarul Zaman said investigations by Bukit Aman and the Johor Commercial Crime Investigation Department saw statements taken from 28 witnesses including company directors, a company secretary, a lawyer, officers from the Land Office and the GLC. One suspect was arrested in Johor while the others were detained in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, he added.He added that they were all members of the board of directors at the cooperative and were also working at the Land Office at that time.
