Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees hits his 62nd home run of the season — and the ball soars into history. Even more exhilarating is that he did it the right way.SAN ANTONIO — It was a special moment that will be preserved in the amber of our collective memory. We awaited it for months, and when it came, it was sublime: Aaron Judge swung his bat, the arc long and graceful, and the ball rode the jet stream into history.
Following the two-week drought since his 61st home run, 62 was sweet release. He did it on the next-to-last day of the season. The crowd stood and cheered, a roar threatening the structural stability of the stadium.. “I think everyone can finally sit down and watch some baseball games.” As for Judge, the “steroid era” led to more stringent testing, so it is almost certain the only time he “juices up” is during breakfast.
With the home run, Judge capped one of the greatest seasons in baseball history — first in homers and RBIs, second in batting average. He almost won the Triple Crown. He led the league in ooohs and aaahs.
