Kneecap are currently in the middle of a massive five-show run at Dublin's Vicar Street - and a very famous fan was spotted amongst the crowd last night. The West Belfast cultural phenomenon has taken the world by storm in recent years with their unique musical style.
The trio fuse hip hop, punk and traditional Irish music, while their lyrics explore themes of identity, culture and the political landscape in the North, all delivered in a distinctive blend of Irish and English. Since releasing their first single C.E.A.R.T.A. in 2017, the band has drawn international acclaim. It's been a huge year for the rappers, who have drew the attention of Oasis' Noel Gallagher and Elton John, among others. Their biopic KNEECAP, where they play themselves alongside Michael Fassbender, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to critical acclaim in January, the first film in the Irish language to do so. It was also recently announced as Ireland's official entry for Best International Feature Film at the 2025 Academy Awards. The Shape Of You singer is no stranger to Vicar Street, having played his first headline show there in 2011 and most recently a 'secret' warm-up show ahead of two nights at Croke Park. For those who missed out on the Vicar Street shows, Kneecap have announced they will play Fairview Park in Dublin on Thursday, June 19 next year. Tickets go on sale this Saturday at 10am via Ticketmaster.
