KOTA KINABALU: The Election Commission (EC) will be reviewing its criteria for appointing election observers after drawing flak for allowing active politician Datuk Lajim Ukin to take on the task.
Sabah Bersih had on Sunday questioned the EC over their decision to allow the former Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah president to be an election observer. In a statement on Monday , EC chairman Azhar Azizan Harun said that there are several guidelines and criteria for observers to abide by, including being from a credible government agency and having a neutral stand.
He added Lajim was appointed as he represented the Electoral Reform Committee and is not a member of a political party.
