Eagle Pass residents and city leaders have become uncomfortable with Texas’ Operation Lone Star and have dropped their support of Gov. Greg Abbott’s efforts, saying there must be a better way.

Escalon, the DPS director overseeing operations in South Texas, told the council that the agreement was a key part of the state’s mission in Eagle Pass and without it, the community would be in crisis.In the end, the council unanimously rescinded the agreement with the state, making the park public property again. Salinas, the mayor, also voted with the council.
