The stories of Sunspin and FunFun.inShop highlight how e-commerce is empowering small businesses in Malaysia to thrive, achieve growth, and contribute to a more resilient economy.
Wong Yung Ming and Lee Sze Yee embarked on their entrepreneurial journey in 2020 with a vision to promote healthier eating habits within Malaysia n families. Driven by their passion for nutritious food and a desire to build a stable future for themselves and their two young children, the husband-and-wife duo founded Sunspin , a company specializing in Konjac noodles and Black Garlic products. Initially operating from their Johor home, they sold to a small local network on a part-time basis.
However, their decision to embrace e-commerce through Shopee's platform proved to be a game-changer. Leveraging Shopee's ecosystem, Sunspin gained access to a wider audience, bringing their wholesome products to families across Malaysia. Wong, who left his IT career in 2024 to focus on Sunspin full-time, attributes their remarkable growth to the support of Shopee Affiliates, who have played a crucial role in driving new and repeat buyers to their store. Their participation in Shopee's 'Kempen Tani' program further empowered them with valuable insights and practical tips on navigating the digital economy. Through workshops, Shopee Live demos, and access to resources, Sunspin honed its e-commerce skills, resulting in a ninefold increase in daily orders during campaign days. Another inspiring success story comes from Bryan Ng, director of FunFun.inShop. Initially working in a logistics company, Bryan was inspired by the stories of Shopee sellers who had successfully built online businesses. During the Movement Control Order (MCO), he took the plunge, starting with a small operation from his home, uploading a few products to Shopee. The response was overwhelming, with orders surging to 200-300 per day. This marked the beginning of a remarkable journey. Bryan reinvested his profits, focusing on customer needs and staying ahead of market trends. He credits Shopee's features, such as Shopee ads, livestreams, and campaigns, for his company's impressive growth, which saw sales increase by 260% to over RM4 million in 2024 alone. Bryan's story exemplifies how e-commerce can transform small ventures into thriving businesses, empowering individuals like Wong and Bryan to achieve their dreams while contributing to Malaysia's vibrant economic landscape.
