Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte underscored the importance of education in ending the cycle of poverty when she visited two public schools in Tacloban on Thursday, May 11. | ManilaBulletin

Duterte visited The Basper Elementary School and Tacloban National Agricultural School. During her classroom visits, she stressed to the learners the significance of education --- particularly in ending the cycle of poverty.

Aside from holding classroom visits, Duterte also held dialogues with school heads and teachers. She listened to their concerns about the education sector, such as school buildings, lessening the paper works of teachers, and other requests intended for their schools. The teaching staff of the schools received the laptops. A total of 232 PagbaBAGo bags, which contained school supplies and dental kits, were also given to Grade 1 and Grade 7 pupils.

Aside from distributing the bags, Duterte also talked to the children’s parents and convinced them to practice “responsible parenthood and family planning.” The PagbaBAGo campaign is a program that aims to “instill the importance of basic education and nurture the right attitude among young Filipinos to succeed in life.”

This was Duterte’s program when she was still mayor of Davao City and became part of the Vice President’s activities during her visits to cities and towns across the country.
