The Ducks have now failed to qualify for the playoffs in five consecutive seasons.
Their last appearance in the playoffs was in 2017-2018 when they finished with 101 points in the regular season but were swept in the first round by the Sharks, kicking off a downward spiral resulting in what could be a long rebuild.
“It’s hard – I think everyone understands where we’re at as a club, a team that’s retooling and trying to shape things for the future,” defenseman Cam Fowler said. “The guys in the locker room, we still had high expectations for ourselves this year and fell short. “For the guys in here competing, it’s always difficult. You want to be playing playoff hockey and that’s what we’re working towards.”
Scoring for the Canucks were J.T. Miller at 9:05 of the first period and Elias Pettersson on the power play at 1:31 of the second. Vancouver went 1 for 4 on the man advantage and the Ducks went 0 for 3 on the power play. Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes added two assists, giving him back-to-back 60 assist seasons. Goalie Collin Delia made 17 saves to record his first victory since Feb. 9.
