Greg O’Dwyer, who is the Assistant Chief Fire Officer, insisted they’re not 'killjoys' and said he wants members of the public to have an 'enjoyable' but 'safe' night

Dublin Fire Brigade has urged people not to buy or use illegal fireworks and to only attend organised events this Halloween

He said Dublin Fire Brigade wants people to understand how dangerous illegal fireworks and bonfires can be."They can also damage people's health as well, just from the respiratory point of view from toxic smoke that comes off them. When asked about fireworks, the experienced firefighter said some parents were purchasing them for their children or to have "displays" in their own back garden."The only legal fireworks are at authorised, licensed events that are run by professionals.

"This ends up causing severe burns to young children's legs. Other examples are the fuse on rockets and bangers being too short and going off and causing disfigurement.Mr O’Dwyer said members of the Dublin Fire Brigade have a unique insight into the dangers of Halloween because they operate both the fire and the ambulance service.

"We see it from both sides. We see the dangers of the fire and we also see the consequences and injuries from these fires and fireworks.
