Delivery fees were excluded from the discounts granted senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) in their online transactions, the Department of Social Welfare and Development said Saturday.

DSWD Assistant Secretary Rommel Lopez said on Dobol B TV that the discounts granted senior citizens and PWDs for their online transactions only covered basic commodities and essential goods and services.granted senior citizens and differently-abled individuals a 20 percent discount

, as well as an additional 8 percent value-added tax exemption, for online purchases, phone calls, and mobile applications. The discount, however, did include medicines and medical supplies allowed to be purchased by the Department of Health, as well as professional fees of physicians, dental services, diagnostic and laboratory fees in private hospitals, medical facilities, outpatient clinics and home healthcare services.

They can avail of the discount on the purchase of the said items not exceeding P1,300 per calendar week, in online and offline transactions, and without carryover of the unused amount.Lopez said senior citizens and PWDs who fail to present their IDs could have their products revoked, or would be required to pay the full amount.

"The joint memorandum circular made sure that senior citizens will be provided assistance, at the same time that businesses will be protected. As we all know, all were affected by inflation and the rise in crude prices," he said.
