Drugstore chains are turning to CBD sales amid prescription reimbursement pressures

for prescription drugs. Pharmacies are receiving less money for filling prescriptions as prices for generic drugs have dropped.

Walgreens and CVS Health made similar disclosures in the last month in regard to CBD, over-the-counter products that don’t require a physician’s prescription. Walgreens said it is offering CBD products in nearly 1,500 stores in Oregon, Colorado, New Mexico, Kentucky, Tennessee, Vermont, South Carolina, Illinois and Indiana, the drugstore chain said. CVS, too, began selling “hemp-derived CBD products” in select stores in California, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland and Tennessee, a company spokesman said.
