KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar for a seventh straight trading day ahead of the high-stakes meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping on May 14-15, 2026.

KUALA LUMPUR: A drug-trafficking network in Langkawi, allegedly masterminded by a police officer, is being probed by police, says the Inspector-General of Police. Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail gave his assurance that no compromise will be made if any breach of the law is proven.

He said investigations were still at an early stage and authorities needed time to identify those involved.

“It is still under investigation because we need to ascertain who is involved, the individuals connected, and the groups linked to the case. “So, we are unable to comment for now. If there are developments, I will call for a press conference,” he told reporters after attending the PDRM Special Dialogue 2026 programme here yesterday. Khalid said police would not comment further until the investigation ended.

“Everyone is aware that this year alone, we have made many major seizures to ensure the country’s security remains safeguarded. “When it involves security laws and related matters, we will not hesitate to lodge police reports and take legal action,” he added. Previously a local media outlet reported a drug-trafficking network operating around the Langkawi islands. It reported that a police officer and several associates ran the network.

The report also alleged that some of those involved had connections to former criminal groups and continued drug distribution activities despite various enforcement operations carried out by police and the National Anti-Drugs Agency . The situation was said to have contributed to ongoing drug abuse problems on the resort island, with Langkawi reportedly continuing to record a high number of drug addicts.
