There was plenty of optimism in the room among fans, but there was also a fair degree of suspicion and confusion.
Drogheda United fans heard from prospective new owners last night, and while there were plenty of big promises and optimism, a fair amount of confusion remains.
The group are keen to stress that their ambition is to improve the town and community and not just make money from the football team. As Ben Boycott puts it, the investment firm operates on a double bottom line of "Financial and Community return." For years, fans have been promised a brand-spanking new stadium to bring Drogheda United kicking and screaming into League of Ireland relevancy. The potential owners are promising big investment in a new ground, with a figure of €15 million being floated around for an ultra-modern 7,000 seater ground.
