A man riding a bicycle has been killed in a hit-and-run crash at a north Queensland intersection. The rider, identified as a 69-year-old local man, was struck by an unknown vehicle at the corner of Bootooloo Rd and Wheelers Ln in Bowen, south of Townsville, at 4.45am on Thursday. The vehicle did not remain at the scene of the crash, and the man was found unresponsive by a passing driver. They called paramedics, but the man could not be saved.
“It’s a tragic incident and we certainly expect that people involved in those sorts of accidents remain on the scene,” he said. “There are a range of issues we need to consider in relation to this. It could be speed. It could be inattention. It could be a situation that is just purely an accident. “But we have to factor all of that into our investigations to establish those causal factors.
