The Department of Justice (DOJ) should take firmer action against the 13 police officers that were part of the anti-narcotics team in Mexico, Pampanga who reportedly recycled the illegal drugs they seized during the buy-bust operation in 2013.
Senate minority leader Franklin Drilon made the call as he pointed out that the involvement of high-ranking officials in the recycling of illegal drugs has tarnished the Duterte administration’s war on drugs.
“Whether it’s 30 or 200 kilos , that constitutes a serious offense which can merit a non-bailable information of violation of the law,” Drilon told reporters in an interview. The said 13 police officers were demoted by one rank instead of being dismissed. Senators asked during the hearing why it took some years before the decision to demote the 13 cops were released.
“What appears to be the shortcoming of Albayalde is he made the call. That call does not implicate him from a criminal case,” he pointed out.Of the three men, Drilon said he finds the testimony of Magalong as credible. He said he also found Aquino credible, but at some point, the man is “apparently” under pressure.
“Kapag may peer pressure ka na, merong class pressure mahihirapan ka na. Diyan niyo makikita kung tunay kang lalaki, kung tunay kang lider,” Gordon said in a separate interview with reporters. “I see Magalong to be the most credible of the three. When I was talking to Aquino, he appeared credible to me, except that, apparently, he was under pressure to reveal his narration,” Drilon pointed out.
