Why The Love For Harry Potter Lives On Before the first movie had even been released, Rowling's Harry Potter novels very quickly developing a large and very passionate fan following. The movies brought the author's world to life to great effect and they only served to bolster the widespread love for the franchise. While Rowling herself has now become a controversial figure, complicating feelings about the franchise for some, the world of Harry Potter still remains as popular as ever.
Part of the reason for the films' continued popularity is their perfect casting. Radcliffe, Watson, Grint, and Felton truly did become their characters, playing them from children to young adults. It wasn't just the leads that captured audiences, however, with supporting characters like Alan Rickman's Snape, Maggie Smith's McGonagall, Richard Harris' and Michael Gambon's Dumbledores, and Ralph Fiennes' Voldemort also perfectly rounding out the magical universe.
In addition to universal themes that audiences around the world can relate to, Harry Potter was a large part of many viewers' childhoods. The main film series ran for 10 years, meaning many younger viewers who started watching with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001 literally grew up with the franchise alongside its lead characters.
