KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 — Health conditions associated with non-communicable diseases have been found to be one of the most prevalent causes that contribute to the rising maternal mortality rate in Malaysia, said Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

“Among mothers with NCD-associated medical conditions, more than 50 per cent of deaths were due to heart diseases. Dr Zaliha said in order to reduce the maternal mortality rate, the Ministry of Health has been strengthening the pre-pregnancy care and venous thromboembolism risk assessment and prescribing thromboprophylaxis for pregnant women.
