GEORGE TOWN: Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik says the arrests of local terrorists recently were shocking in this day and age, when everyone thought that such radicalism is over.

He added that through education that is filled with love and compassion, the spread of extremist ideologies can be countered in the long run.

"They do not love themselves and feel that it's okay to die, as long as their ideologies were spread far and wide," he said in his speech at the Festival Guru Malaysia 2019 appreciation ceremony at Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Bayan Lepas on Wednesday . "The terrorist ideology and extremism has to be countered with a humane education; an education that is based on love, happiness and mutual respect," he said.
