Ia susulan kenyataan Duta Filipina ke Malaysia, Charles Jose yang Manila belum menarik balik tuntutan ke atas Sabah, sebaliknya negara itu tidak aktif meneruskan tuntutan berkenaan ketika ini.
Dr Mahathir Mohamad berkata, beliau tidak akan membincangkan tuntutan Filipina ke atas Sabah dengan Presiden, Rodrigo Duterte dalam pertemuan mereka hari ini.
Wisma Putra kemudiannya mengeluarkan satu kenyataan menegaskan Sabah ialah sebahagian daripada Malaysia, seperti diiktiraf Pertubuhan Bangsa-bangsa Bersatu dan masyarakat antarabangsa sejak pembentukan persekutuan pada 16 September 1963.
