The Democratic Republic of Congo's President Felix Tshisekedi told the the U.N. General Assembly he wants his government to move quickly to evacuate the United Nations peacekeeping mission from the country by the end of the year, according to Reuters, writes Jerry Chifamba for AllAfrica. In August 2023, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said peacekeepers in DR Congo will begin departing the country in an "accelerated withdrawal," confirming the departure of one of the missions first, deployed 25 years ago.
