The Attorney-General’s Chambers recently announced that UMNO Youth Chief Akmal Saleh will be charged over statements he posted on Facebook, which were said to have disturbed public order.
“The individual’s statements were found to potentially threaten public order or involve misuse of network facilities or services,” the statement said. “On August 15, I was called to Bukit Aman District Police Headquarters to give my statement after the flag solidarity gathering in Penang. I was then told by the police that I would be charged at the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate’s Court.”Akmal said that because of this, he has to cut his trip to Mecca for Umrah short right after arriving, to face the charges against him.
Earlier, Akmal had harshly criticised a hardware store owner who went viral for hanging the Jalur Gemilang upside down outside his shop.
