The Rohingya are believed to have been smuggled in overnight by boat from Thailand and left to fend for themselves.
Local police officer Nahar Jalaluddin told AFP the Rohingya were discovered on an isolated stretch of coast in the northern state of Perlis.“The refugees, who included men, women and children, are now in the custody of the immigration authorities.” It is the first time since April 2018 that Malaysian authorities have found a group of Rohingya who made it to the country by sea.
