City Tacos is one of the many restaurants that will showcase their offerings at the Aug. 29-30 Taste of East Village.
SAN DIEGO -- Gerald Torres shows up to work every day at his downtown San Diego restaurant City Tacos, but being there is all about being with his family.
He opened his first shop in 2014, and now there are seven City Tacos all over San Diego County. As a son of two pilots, he credits his parents for his love for different kinds of food. Torres works to bring that savory curiosity to every dish he makes, something he loves to highlight during community events, like the Taste of East Village.Even though this is the first year of the two-day event, Torres is glad this will shine the spotlight on local businesses.

Inaugural Taste of East VillageCalling all foodies to East Village’s largest taste event of the Summer! For two consecutive days, local East Village restaurants will open their doors for the first ever Taste of East Village taking place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29 through Wednesday, August 30.Foodies will eat, sip and stroll their way through the neighborhood sampling appetizers, entrees, desserts and beverages from more than 35 of San Diego’s most popular restaurants.Ticketholders will receive a Taste Passport at check-in to use as a guide for mapping out all participating restaurants in the neighborhood and their menu offerings.Upon arrival to the event, attendees will check-in at their scheduled time at one of three locations, depending on the event day, where they will be given their Taste Passport. Ticketholders will then peruse throughout the neighborhood stopping at participating restaurants for their signature bites, each earning a stamp on their passport.
