'The Democrats are now preparing to pounce,' David Gergen said.
A former presidential advisor has suggested President Donald Trump’s bombastic weekend appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference was that of a man “seeing the walls close in.”
CNN host Ana Cabrera asked Gergen Sunday, “Do you see the candidate who was impervious to scandal, or do you see someone who is now really feeling the walls close in?” Congressional committees are already beginning their own investigations of the president and his closest associates. But even if the Mueller report is not fatal for the Trump presidency, its findings will likely offer Democrats ammunition and new avenues of investigation.
Later in the discussion, Gergen focused on the significance of the House Judiciary Committee, chaired by New York Representative Jerry Nadler, which in the past drove the investigation that eventually toppled President Richard Nixon.
