A majority of voters believe that former President Donald Trump should be pardoned for his handling of classified documents, according to a new survey
The survey was conducted only a few days after Trump was indicted on 37 charges related to storing classified documents from the White House at his Mar-a-Lago residence following his presidency. In total, 53% of respondents said they were in favor of a president pardoning Trump in the event that he is convicted and sentenced to jail for his handling of the documents, while 47% were opposed to the idea, according to the poll from Harvard-Harris released on Friday.
In another recent poll, a majority, 64% of Republican and Republican-leaning respondents, said they would continue to support Trump if he remains in the 2024 presidential race. However, a majority of respondents in the poll, 56%, stated they believe Trump should drop out of the race.Trump is seeking the Republican nomination again for the 2024 election, competing against other Republicans for the spot. President Joe Biden is running for reelection in the 2024 presidential election, setting up a potential rematch between him and Trump if Trump is the Republican nominee.
