Donald Trump 2020 fundraising matches two leading Democratic candidates combined, most came from small donations
President Donald Trump outpaces his leading Democratic challengers in campaign fundraising for the 2020 election, with a large portion of the money coming from small donations.
Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Senator Kamala Harris of California have so far led the Democratic fundraising efforts for 2020. Sanders—who tried for the party's nomination in the 2016 presidential race—has raised $18.2 million in the first quarter of 2019. Harris trails him with around $12 million raised, Reuters explained.
The Republican National Committee is running a parallel fundraising effort for the president. The organization has secured an additional $45.8 million in the first quarter of 2019, The Associated Press noted. This is a nonelection year best for the organization, and brings the total Trump re-election war chest to more than $80 million.
