Doctor Shares How It Happens & How to Avoid Baby Bottle Tooth Decay Recently, a TikTok post (@tomato_012) by a dentist known as Dr. Habib went viral, discussing a patient's dental condition. According to him, some patients he treats have a condition called 'Fluorosis,' which manifests as white spots on their teeth. He explains that this occurs when you swallow toothpaste with a high concentration of fluoride. However, Dr. Habib clarifies that this situation only affects newly erupting teeth, specifically among children. 'If you're over 20 years old, your teeth have already grown in, swallow as much fluoride as you want, it won't make a difference. Maybe you'll get an upset stomach,' he said. 'So, should we use fluoride-free toothpaste for children? No, (children) still need toothpaste with fluoride because fluoride strengthens teeth,' he added. The Amount of Toothpaste Suitable for Children and Adults Controlling the amount of toothpaste used per application is key to preventing Fluorosis. 'Don't use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste every time you brush your teeth!' said Dr. Habib. 'The amount of toothpaste required for children below 6 years old is a rice grain size, while for children above 6 years old and adults, it's a pea-sized amount.' He further emphasized the importance of not wasting toothpaste by using only the necessary amount. 'Don't waste a lot of toothpaste. That's why people buy toothpaste that lasts for four or five months. You go buy a month's worth and finish it. From a health perspective, we need to learn to save money,' Dr. Habib concluded in his sharing. @tomato_012 Replying to @Vanilla Fried Ice Cream bende2 camni kene tau gengg..barulah jimat duit🫢 #dentist #toothpaste #dentalstudent #whitening #fluorosis ♬ Sempurna – ilham Watch the video. The correct way to choose the best toothpaste on the market involves checking the label on the back of the box. According to another dentist, Dr. Dee, it's recommended to buy toothpaste with 'Fluoride 1,000 PPM' content. This fluoride is also said to prevent cavities. For those experiencing sensitive teeth, such as pain from consuming cold foods, using toothpaste containing 'Stannous Fluoride' is recommended.
