Don’t call me traitor, says Zuraida

“My loyalty is to my voters, not the party. In the three terms as parliamentarian, I’ve done a good job for my constituency and for the people here,” she said as she prepared to defend her seat in a nine-corner fight on November 19. “When Dr Mahathir resigned, we all supported him . He was happy because he got almost 100% backing and he said he wanted to form a unity government.
“However, in the early hours , I received a call saying Dr Mahathir has emerged as PH’s prime minister candidate. “At that time, they lost several by-elections. In fact, the people were the ones who elected them to become the government but we kept losing. Meaning the Malays, Chinese, Indians didn’t like us at that time.“That distracted us who were first timers in the government. We never had been ministers before and we wanted to learn but was difficult for us,” she said, referring to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.
