Domestic abuse is a very real problem for women and men across the country. The statistics are shocking.
BOCA RATON, Fla. —The statistics are shocking. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, nearly 20% of women have experienced some form of domestic abuse in their life and the same goes for about one in 12 men–and the numbers have been rising.
Finally, she asked for help, but soon realized she was looking for something more. She needed a creative outlet to help her move forward. Now she’s sharing it with other survivors who are looking for the same thing. Mastrodomenico stepped through the doors of Karnna Fashion Lab in Boca Raton to start the "Sewing Your Future" program, she felt an immediate sense of safety and security. Something she hadn’t felt in a long time.
"I learned by own that sewing, it was a therapy like I was sewing myself, my wounds, and I was building myself again,” said Gomez-Herrera.
