Another short start forces the Dodgers to turn to their overworked bullpen for 6⅓ innings on Monday night, and the Blue Jays finally get to them, scoring three in the 11th.
LOS ANGELES — The Wi-Fi signal in the Dodgers’ bullpen better be strong.
When the Dodgers came out of the All-Star break, they hit the road – and everything else. They batted .282 as a team and averaged 7.1 runs per game while winning six of nine games in New York, Baltimore and Texas. Meanwhile, right-hander Michael Grove was giving the Dodgers the kind of start they crave – but only for four innings.
Caleb Ferguson got through the sixth with the help of another double play and Yency Almonte set the Jays down in order in the seventh. Almonte has been a big part of the bullpen’s rebirth over the past month or more. He hasn’t been charged with an earned run in 13⅔ innings since June 15 and has retired 17 of the past 18 batters he has faced.
