One DoctorWho producer describes Jodie Whittaker's upcoming regeneration special as a 'feature-length epic.'
✖ Doctor Who fans should expect Jodie Whittaker's regeneration episode to be a cinematic event. Whittaker is wrapping up her time as the Thirteenth Doctor with three specials leading into her regeneration. The first, "Eve of the Daleks," debuted on New Year's Day. The next will debut this spring and bring back a classic Doctor Who monster in"Legend fo the Sea Devils.
Regeneration is a Doctor Who tradition dating back to the First Doctor's regeneration in"The Tenth Planet," as William Hartnell passed the lead role onto Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor. According to Strevens, Whittaker is excited to be a part of that continuing tradition. After Whittaker's departure, Doctor Who will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2023. Russell T. Davies, who relaunched Doctor Who in 2005, is returning to lead the anniversary season.
