12 Alonso Frame Alonso was first introduced as the midshipman flying the Titanic, in the festive episode Voyage of the Damned. Alonso's bravery against his ship captain assisted the Doctor in stopping the Titanic crashing into the Earth, subsequently saving the billions of humans below. After the Tenth Doctor left the wreckage of the Titanic, Alonso was left to deal with the fallout.
10 Mickey Smith Mickey Smith started as Rose Tyler's weakling boyfriend, and ended the pilot of the reboot cowering in fear of the episode's events. Over his journey on the show, Mickey ultimately discovered his own bravery, and eventually joined the Tenth Doctor and Rose on the TARDIS. His character developed over time and eventually decided to stay in a parallel world to help with an ongoing fight against the Cybermen.
Even though he understood the Doctor's reasonings, he still hoped that one day Donna could return to him, and when she couldn't, stood by his side and helped him save the Earth from the Master. Wilf ultimately was the cause of the Tenth Doctor's regeneration, despite his arguments that he was an old man and the Doctor should sacrifice him.
Despite this, Sarah Jane grew, and her character eventually softened, realizing that it was the person that the Doctor saw and not age. Her meeting him again helped soften Sarah Jane, allowing her to focus on how she could help the earth, and when reunited once again was motivated by keeping her son , safe and passing on her universal knowledge to him.
3 Rose Tyler The character of Rose Tyler set up the entirety of Davies' era, being the first person the Doctor allowed into his hearts following the Time War. Despite starting as a young woman with no job, no A-Levels, and no future, Rose's time traveling in the TARDIS developed her into a strong, empathetic fighter, realizing that there was more to life than what she'd learned about on her nineteen years on Earth.
