Ketua Polis Daerah Timur Laut, Asisten Komisioner Soffian Santong berkata, kejadian 11.16 malam itu berlaku ketika mangsa, 20, berada di dalam lif berkenaan untuk pulang ke rumahnya."Selepas menyerang mangsa, suspek kemudian melarikan diri manakala mangsa dibawa ke Hospital Pulau Pinang dan dilaporkan stabil.
"Suspek melarikan telefon bimbit dan dompet mangsa yang mengandungi pengenalan diri serta wang tunai berjumlah RM100,” katanya dalam satu kenyataan, hari ini. Susulan kejadian itu, Sofian berkata, pihak polis menahan lelaki berusia 26 tahun semalam dan suspek juga dikenalpasti sebagai jiran mangsa. "Suspek juga mempunyai rekod jenayah dadah dan ujian saringan air kencing mendapati lelaki itu positif methamphetamin serta ditahan reman," katanya.
