Twenty-one of the felony complaints filed by the D.A. are for illegal disposal of hazardous waste and one felony complaint is for allowing metal debris to land on the campus. The misdemeanors facing the company are for its failure to minimize the possibility of fires, explosions and the release of toxic waste.
“These poisons can cause respiratory problems, neurological damage and even cancer,” said Gascon. “Studies show that exposure to pollutants in schools has a significant negative impact on test scores and on being suspended or absent from school.”
