The ANCWL's national task team leadership revealed that they met with the secretary-general of the ANC, Fikile Mbalula, on Monday evening to discuss the conference.said the decision to postpone the conference was taken after a long meeting with Mbalula on Monday evening.
City Press understands that the NTT failed to convince Mbalula that they were ready to proceed with the conference over the weekend. The NTT coordinator, Maropene Ramokgopa, said they requested a postponement of the conference by a week to finalise outstanding appeals.met with the secretary-general’s office of the ANC to assess the state of the readiness of the 13th national conference, given the fact that the mandate of the entities is derived from the ANC,” she said.
She said while they postponed the conference by a week to allow all disputes and appeals to be finalised, they were pre-registering the delegates for the conference.We decided that we wanted to set a new standard. We want to make sure that when we do our registration, it should only take one day because, a lot of times, the ANC struggles with the registration of delegates.
She said they were now giving greater focus and attention to the dispute resolution and appeal processes to ensure that all matters raised by branches, regions and provinces were fully attended to. This is the fourth time that the conference has been postponed. The ANCWL has tried to convene it on several occasions since 2020 but was forced to postpone because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The conference was rescheduled for August last year, but it was again postponed. Last month, the NTT was forced to postpone it for the third time.
