Dead cows from Dimmitt explosion part of deadliest barn fire involving cattle

Emergency responders rescued one person who was trapped inside the building and flew them to a hospital in Lubbock for treatment, according to Castro County Emergency Management. The person had been reported at the time as being critically injured, but an updated condition was not immediately available Thursday.Sheriff Salvador Rivera has said the fire and explosion at Southfork Dairy Farm near Dimmitt likely was due to overheated equipment and would be investigated by state fire marshals.
The institute also tracks barn fires that kill other livestock, including poultry, pigs, goats and sheep.
