The Philippine National Police canceled at the last minute on Tuesday its scheduled turn over and installation ceremonies for eight of its key senior officers after Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr., who sits as chairman of the National Police Commission , said such were not officially approved.
“Let us clarify that a process needs to be followed. A list containing the names of chosen officials should be submitted to the Napolcom for confirmation. If the Napolcom confirms it, the list [would have to be approved by]…the President…,” Abalos said. The order also covered Brig. Gens. Ronald Oliver Lee, Samuel Camarista Nacion, Jose Melencio Corpuz Nartatez and Alan Molintas Nazarro.
According to Abalos, Section 6 of Memorandum Circular No. 2019-001 of the Napolcom provided that the assignment and designation in the PNP should be submitted to the body for “confirmation prior to the submission of the same to the President for approval.”
