This rumor stems from a piece of copypasta — an internet phenomenon in which text goes viral because users re-share it verbatim.

About this ratingA chef did indeed post on Instagram about the impact of the rising cost of producing food.Although the post's wording made it seem like it came from a restaurant"in town" in July 2022, the Oakland, California-based chef is local to the Bay area, and created the post in October 2021.In mid-July 2022, a post circulated on social media that highlighted the pain experienced by restaurants due to inflation.
