THE Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said that it lacks jurisdiction and the tools to block the rampant text scams.
'We still don't have the tools to do that. [Also], we have to talk to the private telcos in order for them to block those numbers,' DICT Undersecretary for Special Concerns Atty. Paul Joseph Mercado said during Collier's event on cybersecurity at Dusit Thani Manila on Wednesday. However, measures from the government such as legislation and policies are being implemented that could lessen the incidents.
'We are still trying to get all the best practices of different areas to get the best tools,' Mercado shared. However, new laws are not the answer nor the solution to address cyberattacks in the country, but the implementation of the existing laws.'We have laws in this, but the execution of those laws,' Mercado pointed out.
