The Diamondbacks hosted the Detroit Tigers in the finale of their three-game series on Sunday, and won it 11-7 with a season high 13 hits.
In tying their second-highest run total in a game this season, the Diamondbacks equaled the combined run total from the previous five games in just one game.
Keuchel's elevated pitch count curtailed his afternoon at 4 ⅓ innings, but he kept the Diamondbacks close. Arizona led 5-3 when J.B. Wendelken entered in relief after Keuchel walked a man with one out. Keuchel, signed to a minor league contract by the Diamondbacks on June 7 after the Chicago White Sox designated him for assignment, had been pitching at the team's Salt River Fields at Talking Stick complex before having his contract selected in time for Sunday's start. He topped out at 88.4 miles per hour with his fastball, but struck out seven with three walks in his outing.
"There was a lot of great feels... I'm not getting 13 swings and misses in 4 ⅓ with just getting lucky," Keuchel said."There was plans, there was pitch shape. Outside of a lot of uncompetitive pitches, I would say, there was a lot of really, really good pitches mixed in."
