Supply chains have changed permanently following the COVID-19 pandemic forcing logistics companies to become more flexible and efficient.
Supply chains have changed permanently after the COVID-19 pandemic, forcing logistics companies to become more flexible and efficient, DHL executive Oscar de Bok said as the global group brings 1000 robots to Australian warehouses.
“Taking something that works and then taking it through many sites around the globe and many sites around Australia, that’s what actually makes the big difference,” he said. Some of DHL’s Australian customers who previously only had one warehouse nationally were now making sure they had warehouses in at least two cities to minimise the potential for disruption, said Steve Thompsett, the boss of DHL’s Australian supply chain business.
The Bonn-headquartered company, which is part of the Deutsche Post DHL Group, already has some automated operations in Australia with just over 100 robots but is adding 1000 to help move packages around warehouses.Advertisement
