The determination of the start of Ramadan and Eid still depends on the technical calculation of the falak method if the rukyah method fails to detect the hilal. According to renowned local falak expert, Datuk Dr. Azhari Mohamed, this fact is unknown to the public who believe that they only need to see the new moon. Malaysia is not like other countries where the determination of the date is decided using either the hisab or rukyah method.

PUTRAJAYA: Penentuan tarikh permulaan bagi Ramadan dan Syawal tetap bergantung kepada hisab atau pengiraan teknikal falak jika kaedah rukyah gagal untuk mencerap hilal.

Beliau merujuk mengenai banyak hantaran di media sosial yang mempertikaikan pengumuman tarikh Hari Raya Puasa oleh Penyimpan Mohor Besar Raja-Raja, Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad. Mengulas lanjut, Azhari yang juga Penasihat Persatuan Falak Syari’ Malaysia berkata, setiap kali proses pencerapan dibuat, ada empat kemungkinan yang sudah pun boleh diramalkan.

Sekiranya terjadi keadaan sebegini ujar beliau, Majlis Raja-Raja menetapkan keesokannya ialah 1 Syawal kerana data hitungan hisab adalah sah setelah melalui proses kiraan teliti. “Insiden nadir sebegini dua tahun lalu malah menyebabkan situasi disebut ‘Raya Terkejut’ kerana dalam takwim kerajaan dinyatakan jumlah 30 hari puasa Ramadan,” terang Azhari.
