Santana fled to Florida because he was assaulted between Feb. 5 and Feb. 7, an attack related to Hernandez having gone missing, Bilinkas argued.
A second man charged in connection with the murder, Leiner Miranda Lopez, 26, is still being sought by authorities.
Members of Hernandez’s family attended the detention hearing, but they declined to comment afterward.
