A brand of tarts has been recalled due to undeclared almonds, a tree nut allergen.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced a Class I recall—the agency's most serious level—for Atwater's Spider Web Tarts due to undeclared almonds, a tree nut allergen, in its almond flour, posing a significant health risk to consumers.Recalled products were distributed in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C. The recall was initiated by the Baltimore-based firm, One Roof LLC, parent company of Atwater's, on October 21 and classified as Class I by the FDA on November 27.
'The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the almond containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of almonds...Subsequent investigation indicated the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's production and labeling processes,' the firm said.Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the product and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
