'Nobody is going to fight for a roster spot like I will.' Houston DL/FB ParishDerek chatted with JustinM_NFL about playing both sides of the ball, his Shrine Bowl experience, which NFL teams he’s met with, and so much more. NFLDraft

may be the most unique prospect in the 2023 NFL Draft. Parish, who recorded 8.5 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks in Houston’s first four games in 2022, doubles as a fullback on the offensive side of the ball! Parish’s unique ability to chase quarterbacks and open up lanes for his running back to exploit makes him an intriguing prospect.

Regardless of where you want to play me, I’m going to help the team win. I think I did a really good job proving that at the East-West Shrine Bowl.Derek Parish: I met with all 32 teams. The teams that I thought really liked me and talked about having a clear plan for me were the Houston Texans, Las Vegas Raiders, Dallas Cowboys, New York Jets, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I had really good conversations with those teams. They knew exactly what they wanted to see out of me.

I want to help change the way the game is being played. I want to become the first two-way trench football player. I want to play offensively and defensively. I love playing in the trenches. I want to make a legitimate impact on both sides. I know I don’t pass the eye test as a pass rusher. I’m considered undersized. That’s what gives me the chip on my shoulder. I’ve always had it because of the undersized label. Every team saw value in me as a rotational rusher. I think my dog is bigger than most of them. That’s how I approach it.

Derek Parish: The recovery process has been great. I’m ahead of schedule. During Shrine week, I was barely cleared to practice and play. At the first practice, I stepped onto the field with an arm brace. I ended up ripping it off because I felt good without it . I feel strong. Derek Parish: I really think I have the deepest bag in this class. I have power moves, speed moves, and everything in between. I have multiple counters in my arsenal. I see myself as a sponge. I’m always learning.
