The Lorain County Sheriff’s Office says a 20-year-old student from California traveled across the country to try to scam a Huntington Township man out of $26,000.
On August 22, the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office was sent to a home on Bursley Road in Huntington Township to respond to a fraud complaint.
“She overheard him on the phone speaking to someone who indicated they were with the IRS. They were giving him instructions to put $26,000 into a cardboard box, wrap it in Christmas wrapping paper and stand by for further instructions,” said Sheriff Lieutenant Robert Vansant. A red Toyota arrived at the house on Bursley Road around 10:30 a.m. That is when police found Tsz Chun Xie in the back seat.
