International study finds depression in poor communities can be linked to anxiety about food scarcity

Inadequacy, shame and defeat are some of the feelings starving SA households are likely to endure.

An international study that included researchers from the University of KwaZulu-Natal has delved into how food security is affecting the mental health of poor households, particularly in “hotspots”, among them KZN and Eastern Cape.
