Air quality along the northern Front Range will remain poor on Monday and Tuesday as the flow of smoke from wildfires in Canada intensifies again before improving on Wednesday
Monday is expected to be sunny with a high near 76 degrees at Denver International Airport and winds from the southwest at 5 to 9 miles per hour with gusts as high as 15 mph. The low tonight should be around 50 degrees with partly cloudy skies, continued breezes and areas of smoke.
Storms are expected to develop over the north-central mountains Monday afternoon and evening, bringing scattered to widespread showers and storms with a limited chance of flash flooding in burn areas. That pattern is expected to repeat on Tuesday, with a greater chance for storms to move into lower elevations and generate brief periods of heavier rains in adjacent areas to the mountains.
An influx of moisture into the state on Wednesday and Thursday will boost the odds for heavier storms and rain in the metro Denver area, with large hail possible over the plains in the second half of the week. Air quality will remain poor Monday through Tuesday due to the smoke from wildfires in Alberta, with some improvement expected toward Wednesday, the forecast predicts.
