After spending his rookie NFL season on injured reserve, Christopher Allen isn’t staying there in 2023.

that limited Allen to one game during Alabama’s 2021 season prevented him from playing during the NFL’s 2022 campaign, too. Allen had suffered a broken foot in Alabama’s season-opening 44-13 victory over Miami on Sept. 4, 2021.

Allen made limited appearances in Denver’s offseason practices and began training camp on the non-football injury list last year before landing on IR.When Allen went to IR this year, he could not play for Denver this season. But now that he’s been released, Allen could sign with another NFL team when healthy, if he clears waivers on Tuesday.

In an injury settlement, an NFL team pays a player on injured reserve a negotiated amount – often based on the number of games that the injury would keep him sidelined – to release him from IR rather than keep the player on the roster all season. Harris also had an injury-marred college career at Alabama. He missed the 2018 season with a knee injury. After leading the SEC in tackles for loss in 2020, Harris played in only one more game for the Crimson Tide.
